If you prefer to use the viewfinder diopter adjustment, sans glasses, that will be fine for simple near or far sightedness. But if your glasses correct for astigmatism, or even stronger aberrations, the simple diopter adjustment will NOT handle that by itself. Kelly Cook. I quite agree, Kelly.
My only pick with my brand new D70 is that the diopter adjustment doesn't quite reach my correction. Is there a stronger viewfinder lens that would allow the diopter to work for people with stronger need for correction and also correct back to 20/20 (for when wearing glasses, others using the camera, etc.)? Yes, there is.
Comparing the D800 and 5D MK III, it seems to me that the diopter 'jumps' in larger, far more discrete intervals on the D800, relative to the Canon. With the Canon, I find I'm able to tweak the VF perfectly to my liking; on the D800, my preferred diopter adjustment strikes me as approximately right, at best.
Diopters can be screwed into the lens’ front threads, clamp onto the lens barrel, or fit into a filter tray in a matte box. The glass element is usually a simple curved lens, but in some cases two lens elements can be glued together. With the diopter attached to a lens, you are reducing the lens’ minimum focusing distance — allowing the
Canon says that the default setting of the diopter is -1 dioptersis this the correct setting for someone with 20/20 vision adn should I set it to 0 diopters? It is generally conmsidered that for someone with a full range of vision accommodation (the ability to focus both near and far), an eyepice setting of about-1 diopter is desirable.
Solution. Remove the eyecup. While grasping sides of the eyecup, slide it upward to remove it. Turn the dioptric adjustment knob. Turn the knob the right or left until the focusing point or the center spot metering circle looks sharp in the viewfinder. The diagram shows the knob set at the standard diopter (-1 dpt)
