First, open the hood of your vehicle and locate the MAF sensor on the air cleaner assembly. Usually, you'll find it between the air filter housing and throttle body. This could be a small block or a cylindrical section mounted as part of the air duct. On some models, you'll find it inside the filter housing.

From OBD Fusion: P0102 - Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Low Input. From (PASoft) BMWScan 140: DME 08[008] Air mass flow sensor signal short circuit to negative or open circuit. EGS 92[146] CAN Moment interface. I then used OBD Fusion to read the live MAF data (thanks for that idea jfoj) - it was zero regardless of engine speed.

edjack is correct that ambient air temp, barometric pressure, engine speed, engine temp, etc. will change MAF air flow readings, but the readings should fall within a given range at the same engine speed/temp. The 528 in this thread would seem to be out of range assuming the reading was taken at idle and in relatively the same conditions as the Fault Code Definition. The Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) measures the amount of air entering the engine and the Engine Control Module (ECM) uses the information to determine the proper amount of fuel quantity and ignition timing. The Mass Airflow Sensor P0102 trouble code is set when the ECM detects a low voltage output from the Mass Air flow Sensor. So i kept looking and decided to replace the mass air flow sensor because that seemed like a plausible failure for a 110k mile car. Still nothing happened. So right now i am thoroughly flustered and truly baffled as what to do next. So i was hoping someone might have a clue. So anyone have an idea?-Thanks for whatever advice you can give e46 38 posts · Joined 2014. #4 · Aug 11, 2015. Here are codes, after clearing, starting engine, turning off, and re-reading: Code: DME -> 08/F2 - Air mass flow sensor signal, short circuit to negative or open circuit Shadow-memory: 08/F2 - Air mass flow sensor signal, short circuit to negative or open circuit 5A/12 - Exhaust temperature before rozHqb.
